As I lay back in my bed at 5:00 am
I’m left with a choice to make
Do I hit snooze, return to the dream realm
Or get up and sleep do I forsake
My hands extending towards the snooze button
I’m reminded of the quote of Abu Bakr
Shame on the one who wakes up and
Already hears the singing of the bird
Voices in my head start murmuring, they object
It’s too early, too dark, too cold, don’t go
For their opinions, I have no respect
The voice of defiance! I must follow!
This voice reminds me, jogs my memory
A voice that says
There was a reason I put the alarm in the first place
I think of those that came before me
The habit that they had of waking up early
This habit leaves a mark on the faces physically
The one who rises early
his face will glow with confidence said Imam Raazi
With this voice of defiance do I stand
To accomplish my goals as I had planned
With this newfound motivation at hand
I toss my blanket and leave the dreamland
